As a professional athlete who relies entirely on physical performance, it is imperative that my trainer be knowledgeable and push me to the highest level. Alex has extensive knowledge in strength training and nutritional planning and has helped me reach my offseason goals. His attention to detail in the gym is second to none and he really listens to clients and applies his expertise to push them to where they need to be.
Alex has helped me generate power and explosion to a level that I have not had in the past. It has translated very well to MMA. He wrote and helped me through my cardio session for my last four fights (which I won all 4), and that lead to a level of performance that I have not had in the past. I highly recommend working with him for whatever your fitness needs are.
I came to Alex to become a healthier individual and to take control over my life. I started off being 146 pounds. After working with Alex I eventually decided to compete in a bikini competition. I ended up placing 2nd in my first show and placing first winning the title of Miss Wilmington NC in my second show. I also ended up weighing 126 pounds! My body had completely transformed!! It is unbelievable how different I looked by sticking to a gym routine and eating healthy. I know that this journey was made possible thanks to Alex and his talent and passion for the health industry. Thanks to him I was able to achieve my goals! He was there for me throughout the whole process and I would recommend Alex to anyone trying to lose weight and take control over there life! He is the man to go to!
Alex Croteau has been instrumental in helping manipulate my body for roles in film whether to gain healthy weight or shred down. My body has changed dramatically thanks to his help and knowledge of training and nutrition. Not only is he a great trainer but he’s also an excellent teacher. I’ve learned info about health that has allowed me to implement that knowledge for life.
I have known Alex for almost two years now. We were both sponsored athlete for a supplement company. I met him physically during our sponsor’s retreat at the Olympia in 2016, we got to talking about training and I mentioned some of the injuries I have been battling without hesitation he start accessing my movement patterns and was able to point out my flaws and restrictions in my movement patterns.
We stayed in touch and I reached out to him while I was getting ready for my 2017 contest prep, we teamed up and started working together at the beginning of 2017. The style of training he designed not only challenged me to push myself, it was designed to address some of the flaws I have in my physique.
Besides the training, he also designed some rehab work that has helped me manage my injuries and still make improvement in my physique.
I went on to compete in 6 shows this year where I won 5 overall shows including an IPE World Title and got second in another World Title at the WNBF Worlds.
It’s a breath of fresh air when you work with somebody that knows exactly what to do to your physique and makes sure you are challenging yourself to reach your full potential. Most of all, you know your training program is customize to fit you not some cookie cutter training program.
It has been an honor and blessing working with Alex for my contest prep and can’t wait to see the improvement we are about to make this improvement season.
Alex Croteau has made a huge different in my philosophy on lifting as well as my overall well-being. After I stopped playing rugby and sports competitively, I kind of got lost as far as fitness went because I felt like I had nothing to train for. I then had some personal issues arise and really fell out of it. It’s easy to see with myself the benefits I gained, because I have lost almost 20 pounds and float around 8% body fat currently, but it’s more than that. Training with Alex really gave me a purpose, because he pushed myself as hard as he would push himself. He makes you think about what you want as far as aesthetically, goals, and in life and how it can be achieved. His approach is not just, “do you want to lose weight” “gain weight” or any stereotypical goal. Goals are considered, but it’s a whole mind, body, and spiritual connection as well. You find that drive or goal within yourself and then he is able to cultivate it. We were always very open with each other and it made it easier to get through those obstacles that life throw at you. Every workout no matter how hard it was, or how rough the day before was mentally or emotionally we always choose to thrive. I can confidently say that had I not worked with Alex my overall well-being and knowledge would be very short of where I am today. I am also confident should you choose to train with Alex, that even once you stop, your workouts will always contain a piece of his DNA; whether that be his mentality of pushing through it or his exercises and progressions.
Health and fitness have always been a passion of mine and I wanted to take it to a new level by competing in a bikini bodybuilding show. I knew that if I wanted to do my very best that I would have to hire a coach who was more knowledgeable than I was to help take my training and nutrition to another level.
I decided to take a leap of faith and contact Alex who I had heard wonderful things about to see if he would coach me through my first competition and I am so glad that I did! He designed a nutrition plan and a training program specifically for myself and my bodies weaknesses. He most certainly took my training to another level I never thought would be possible. He pushed me harder in the gym, encouraged me, taught me a substantial amount of information , and was always there to talk to any minute of the day if I had a question about the process or to talk to about life. He is a genuinely kind hearted person who will always be up front with you and tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear.
When it comes to health and wellness he is one of the most passionate and knowledgeable people I have ever met! It was incredible to see the changes my body went through in such a short amount of time of only 3 months. I ended up taking first place in my first show and I could absolutely not have done it without Alex’s drive, positivity, and without him pushing me to be the best version of myself mentally, physically, and even spiritually. Since then, I have continued to work with Alex for another show and I have gained much more knowledge about proper training technique and nutrition that I didn’t know before. I can’t thank him enough for being such a great coach and role model!
It’s not a hobby, it’s a lifestyle”. That means something different for everyone. Everyone has a different goal which leads them down a different path. Mine started on the left. We’ll call that my “state of depression” and I did not wear it well 🤷🏻♀️ I was about 90 lbs here, my relationship sucked, my job sucked, my surroundings in general (let’s just throw everything in there) sucked and was quite literally sucking the life out of me. Everything but my son, he did the opposite of that and he was the only thing 🙏🏻 Fast forward a few years… I dropped my life (literally) and I met a lot of great people one of which was @alexcroteau22 and he’s a big fitness nut job and truth be told, I didn’t understand him at first. He’d always go on about it “being a lifestyle”. Like wtf does that even mean? 🙄 But whatever, he was my friend so I played along. I mean let’s be honest, I didn’t have much to lose at this point 😂 Fast forward a couple more years and add about 35 lbs but while you’re adding that, add a smile, some self confidence, a motive to empower, strength to keep going, self love, self respect, a team, etc and bam… that’s your “lifestyle”. I still hold that I was right I didn’t have anything to lose, but I’ll go ahead and say he was right too, I had everything to gain. A lot can happen when you change your lifestyle. Sometimes we need a push, sometimes just a little direction and sometimes we need a slam in the face style wake up call (I was the latter). And sometimes, we just need a really good friend who is also a really good coach. But whatever it is that you need, find it. 🖤
Alex is the most gifted, talented, and KNOWLEDGEABLE strength and conditioning coach I have ever worked with. His gifts and talents -passion and tenacity and positivity- are not unmatched by his insane understanding of the human body! Alex and I worked together during a time when I needed a coach that actually knew his sh*t!
I have trained as a bodybuilder since 2008 with no real professional strength coach or hands on guidance in the gym. I suffer from scoliosis which, along with years of “uneducated” lifting, has caused muscular imbalances and postural issues that Alex was able to diagnose! I was prescribed detailed programming and worked with Alex one-on-one to improve these areas as best we could in the time we had.
Alex is absolutely the best at everything he does and takes no shortcuts with his clients! Whether it’s for contest preparation, sport specific training, or overall health, Alex is your guy. Nutrition, cardio, recovery, stretching, lifting.. He’s an advocate and expert at them all.
Alex Croteau played a pivotal role in my past powerlifting meet preps. He assisted me with diet and form critique to help ensure I was in top form. He also gave me sound advice on rehabilitation when I was injured.
Alex Croteau trained me leading up to my most recent Professional Mixed Martial Arts fight. He sat with me and not only talked to me about my goals and concerns with my performance, put me through many different tests and assessments, and outlined the entire program before we even began. He instructed me on how to properly perform each exercise before my workouts began, and he kept me injury free and healthy while elevating my athletic ability and performance. I can 100% say that I went into my fight feeling the best I have ever been in my career following our time working together. Alex will educate and motivate you, while helping you reach your goals, whether you are a professional athlete, or someone who just wants to be healthy and ready I go through life at their best.
I travel and work with the best people in the industry. It’s comforting to know when I come home I have someone who puts the same amount of effort and attention into my success when I ask him.
Every serious bodybuilder needs a well educated, dedicated and like minded coach and I’m glad to say I have that in Alex C. Very excited for this off season and even more excited for you to prep me coach!
My fitness journey started off like everyone else’s, I looked in the mirror and wasn’t happy with what I saw. After trying for about 6 months to lose the unwanted pounds on my own and failing I went searching for a coach. I was referred to Alex by a mutual friend and was instantly impressed with his knowledge and understanding of fitness. Right away he explained the correct way to diet ,which I was doing all wrong, and set a plan to get me where I wanted to go. I went from a pudgy 157 to a healthier weight of 125, and I could not be happier. But more than just a trainer, he has become a great friend. He is one of the most compassionate and understanding people I know, and truly cares about each and every person he works with. I cannot say enough positive words about this man, he’s just the best!
I grew up always being very slender and had trouble gaining muscle. I start training with Alex to become a healthier me and to try to gain lean muscle mass which was very hard on my own. He helped me with nutrition and I was on a specific training program for months. In the time period I worked with him my body transformed dramatically. It was amazing to see the positive changes that happened physically. While working with Alex I decided to do my first npc bikini competition. He coached me through the whole process and was an amazing coach!! I don’t know what I would have done without his help and guidance.
Alex is a buddy of mine that I have been friends with for a few years. I knew how knowledgeable he is when it comes to the body and the gym. I hired Alex to help me with training and nutrition for a physique show. He pushed me to my limits in the gym. A lot of the times we would train together and let me tell you it was intense to say the least!! His drive and passion for this sport and for helping others is incredible. I am truly thankful for his help and guidance!
When I went to shoot Eastbound and Down in the summer of 2013 I knew I wanted to make a change in my life. I also knew I needed help making that change because I didn’t have the right tools to do so on my own. That’s where Alex came in, a friend of mine, who looked amazing said she was in the best shape of her life because she had been working with Alex. Seeing her results made me want to meet this guy and boy was I happy. The first two weeks I dropped 11 pounds and several inches all around, I was so excited. For the next four weeks after that he helped transform me into a fitter and healthier version of myself. He made me work hard while understanding some of my limitations but still pushing me to give my best. People around me started noticing my results and I couldn’t have been happier. When I left Wilmington I was sad that I would no longer be able to work out with him but I knew that I possessed the tools to continue on my journey to being a healthier version of myself. He changed my life, not only with his training but also by being my friend and on all around good dude. Thanks Alex!
Right before my sixteenth birthday I was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma, a type of cancer that would force me to undergo chemotherapy for two years. As I recovered from my treatment I began rebuilding my body. I started training in mixed martial arts, using fighting as an outlet for my anger.
I met Alex two years ago when I walked into his old gym for the first time. I was a cocky, angst ridden teen and he helped turn me into a man. He analyzed my strengths and weaknesses and used his encyclopedic knowledge of fitness to help me iron out my flaws. He refused to let me give up and pushed me to the limits of my capabilities, while somehow remaining a friend instead of drill sergeant. He commanded respect by leading by example; you can always be sure he’s doing the same workout as you only twice as hard.
I’ve trained with tons of people in Wilmington and Alex is the best coach and mentor I’ve met. If you are already athletic Alex can take you to the next level and make you elite. He coached me from being a cancer patient into being an explosive athlete capable of running a 4.5 forty yard dash. On top of this he is a good, honest man who charges much less than a trainer of his caliber could.
Bottom line: If you want results, go to Alex. I came to Alex with the goal of dropping a weight class in competitive powerlifting, which was about 20 pounds, while maintaining lean mass and building strength. I needed to be leaner and stronger. It was going to be tough but Alex took me on. Working with Alex at Port City Sports Performance was exceptional in every aspect. From the beginning, Alex was professional and thorough. He took care of everything. He maintained contact and answered any and all questions that I had throughout the entire process. He made sure to track changes and adjust the nutritional guidance as needed to ensure that my goals were met. His passion for what he does is as evident in making others the best they as it is in his own personal pursuits. He practiced what he preached and will continue to work with you, and motivate you to reach your goals and achieve even beyond what you thought you could do. The results speak for themselves. In one month: down 10 pounds, lost 5.7% body fat, and gained 4 pounds of muscle!
Hi, my name is Tre and I am a retired US Marine and an amateur mixed martial artist. Upon leaving the military, I desperately wanted to stay in shape and find something to keep me busy and Alex Croteau has been greatly helpful. When I met Alex I was around 225 pounds and my cardio was incredibly horrible. Alex used his amazing knowledge of nutrition, cardio, and gift of leadership to push me every day up until my first fight. Within 3 months, I went from 225 pounds to 190 pounds all while getting stronger, faster, and more lean than I had ever been in my lifetime, including the Marines. Alex is not your ordinary trainer, he has competed in some pretty competitive fitness shows and his physique during show time is evidence of his work ethic and knowledge of nutrition and fitness.
I came to Alex for guidance for my first physique competition. He was my brothers coach so I knew how talented he was and the results I would get if I stuck to his plan. I was on a strict diet that Alex created for me to get ready for my show. I stuck to his plan and had weekly meetings with him to see how I looked and if he needed to change things up depending on what I looked like throughout the process. I ended up taking 1st place in my first physique competition thanks to Alex. I could not have done it without his help and knowledge when it comes to nutrition. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to compete and look the best on stage!
